East Grand Rapids High School is located in west Michigan. Our 20 year rowing program is a 501c3 varsity club sport with approximately 50 rowers. The program is strongly supported by the team boosters, crew board, and parent volunteers. We compete in local, regional and national regattas.

We are seeking a Boys’ Varsity coach. We practice at our own boathouse on Reeds Lake (within walking distance of the high school). Practices are in the fall/spring seasons and winter training is at the high school. We also organize summer conditioning. Our goal is to achieve success on the water while encouraging sportsmanship, self-discipline, and pride in our athletes.

•Experience in rowing, supervising rowers
•Extensive knowledge of technical rowing
•Boat rigging and repair experience
•First aid/CPR certified
•Comfort driving a motor launch
•Clear communication skills
•Passionate about rowing
•Pass background check and screening requirements


Organization: Oversee rowers, plan goals, assist with winter conditioning, plan practices (min. 4 days/wk. during contract period), attend meetings, perform administrative tasks, assist with rigging/de-rigging boats and boathouse/equipment activities, attend regattas and team functions

Teaching: Inspire and train rowers, teach rowing technique and safety to athletes of varying skill levels, develop and implement workouts

Communication: Communicate with athletes, coaches, captains, board members and parents, work well with others

Promote Rowing: Project enthusiasm, maximize athlete retention, model sportsmanship, promote cross-training
