School Experience Manager

Positions Supervised: Relationships with consultants, learning staff, and volunteers

Position Summary
The School Experience Manager is responsible for leading the Art Museum’s programmatic offerings for schools (K-University). This position includes maintaining and developing GRAM’s relationships with area school districts, organizations, and universities. The School Experience Manager will also oversee the management and expansion of longitudinal curriculum programs, as well as other initiatives for teachers and students.

Essential Job Functions
Oversee and expand the museum curriculum programs.
Maintain the full Grand Rapids Public Schools partnership, including coordinating with Central Office staff, attending district meetings, and overseeing curriculum materials, mailings, and takeaways.
Expand the reach of programs by developing partnerships with other districts.
Work with internal/external committees on logistics, teaching/learning experiences, and assessment program.
2. Administer school focused experiences.
Cultivate new audiences for school programs.
Teach school group workshops and interface with learning staff to ensure appropriate staffing.
3. Maintain and develop current programs and expand offerings for schools.
Develop and implement a calendar of teacher professional development programming and accompanying teacher resources.
Plan and implement the museum’s participation in ArtPrize education programming.
Oversee and implement the museum’s collaboration with Forest Hills School District’s middle schools.
Expand student exhibition program.
4. Administer college faculty and museum relations.
Develop and teach college/university classes.
Maintain course roster policy (submission, payment, communication).
Develop possible pilot of college/university nights.
5. Serve as a member of the interpretation team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Art Education, Fine/Studio Art, or Museum Studies; a Master’s degree is preferred. Excellent leadership and communication skills, both written and verbal, are required for interacting with educators, volunteers, museum staff, and other constituencies. The individual should bring strong project management, organization, and research skills; a knowledge of art history and current trends in museum and classroom teaching strategies; an aptitude for detail, and the ability to work independently as well as in a team setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and graphic design software is required.
Physical Job Requirements
While performing this job the employee will be required to sit (60%), stand and walk (40%). Will be required to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally. Will be required to do close work with a computer monitor and perform repetitive hand movements. Must be able to communicate verbally.
